Pos Legap, Kuala Kangsar - UCTC UKM

Venue: JAKOA Pos Legap, Kuala Kangsar, Perak
Date:

I've managed to join Madam Amira for an eye screening in Kampung Orang Asli here. There were 3 optometrists which were Madam Amira, Kak Diana @our optometrist, and me. Also, a group of seven final year optom students of UKM. We headed off from UKM KL at almost 7pm and arrived at Kompleks JAKOA which was the place we need to stay for the rest of the program.

When I first arrived there, my expectation was totally wrong. To my surprise, that place was more than enough, nice bedroom, excellent internet connection, and even the foods were good.

The next day turned out a little upset where they were very minimal crowd waiting in the eye checkup area, which was held at the Pusat Komuniti JAKOA Pos Legap. Thus, the students were reinforced to split into few groups and try to invite the villagers and even picked them up as many of them got no transport to attend the event.

Luckily, the number of crowds excalated after Zohor, and we managed to screen their eyes accordingly. And we were being told that the crowds were actually less than expected since there was a Takraw tournament held in the village on that day. So we expected to have more crowds tomorrow. Well actually, the event was part of the final year project of  these students. They actually needed to assess the procedure of vision test using the LEA symbol which they have taught the selected youth in the village last time, to make sure that they did the proper way. And we, optometrist, needed to recheck the power and eye condition, and if needed, they would be prescribed get spectacles for free.

registration - kids always the excited ones

trained the youth to assess vision in correct procedure

my forte
The next day was quite a trouble as it was raining early in the morning. But we proceeded the event with those who came early though it was raining outside. Indeed, the day was very cold, with us having the refraction test in an air-conditioned room, yet I still managed to perform refraction although I had to go out several times to consider myself warming my body. My bad, I cant stand the cold, seriously.

Oh, forgot to mention, there were another 3 fresh grads optom came today from Perlis. So today we got 4 stations for refraction test cause we expected today could be hectic as it was the last day.

i love kids. their energy and excitement - so adorable
